1979  Bronco bumper

Not quite the beginning of Dean's front bumper, but the first hands-on after several hours of measuring and drawing it out.  We decided to cut the grill and modify the core support in order to maintain the Warn 8274 upright winch without the loss of approach angle.  We are hoping for a 4" gain.

The bumper is on and waiting for finishing supports, top plates and paint.  The '79 is getting a 1" body lift to make room for the larger tires and bumper supports that are needed to combat those pesky trees that like to jump in the way of full-size 4x4s on Jeep trails.

89 Jeep wrangler 4.2 to 4.0 FI conversion

We installed a Fuel injected 4.0L HO out of a 97 Grand Cherokee into an '89 Wrangler to take care of 2 problems:  grossly inconsistent throttle response and poor idle quality due to electronically controlled carburetion and VW beetle rivaling horsepower.  We used an aftermarket engine management system and wiring harness. Everything was mostly bolt on. We did however, have a difficult time finding a jeep air box so we rigged something up for now.

79 Bronco roll cage buildup

We started in on the roll cage on Deans 79 Bronco. we are using 2in .120 wall tubing. It's turning out pretty nice. Check out the pics!

We started in on the front half of the cage and decided to do something a little unique.  Instead of 3 hoops, a front, mid, and rear, we utilized multi-plane angles on door hoops with a front cross-bar.  It was a little more difficult to figure out but we think the extra work is worth it. The two spreaders in the center are just wide enough for the CB. One more evening's work should wrap it up.  Thursday is our next planned 'Garage Night' so there should be an update next week.

Bonus!!  Yesterday we took out the front part of the cage to finish welding the joints, paint it, reassemble and weld it to the center hoop.  The plan is still to finish it up Thursday evening.  The tubing notcher makes all the difference in aesthetic and structural quality of the weld.

1971 Bronco frame off restoration

This restoration should be interesting - reassembly of a Bronco that's been cut in half.  Plans for it include 1/4 elliptic or coil spring rear suspension, fuel injected 302, C6, 205/203 doubler T-case, extended radius arm front suspension, 1 ton axles, 38in tires, full custom cage and bumpers.  Not all is planned at once, but we will work on the functional aspects of the vehicle first so as not to re-do more than absolutely necessary as we upgrade.

Its been a little while since I've added any new pics or info on this project. We haven't spent too much time on this lately cause other projects seem to be piling up. The C6 was just rebuilt and the 203 range box has been mounted to it. We are still trying to decide on carbureted or FI, and which FI system to go with if its FI. We are also trying to decide if we want to use the 71 cut body or the 77 body which is in better shape and might save us a little time in the body work.

7/30/05 Update!!!  The frame is back in the garage.  We have body mounts, front springs, body lift blocks, a 302, HD 9" all the bushings, a complete new waterproof wiring harness, and a pair of seats.  Dean purchased a clean and totally stock '73 for his wife that's been a great motivator to get this project back on schedule for this winter!  Pics of the '73 coming soon.
